ROLE 

Superduper is an IP Development Studio specialising in high-end character development and animation. 

For upcoming IPs we are looking for a motivated groom technical director with a hands-on mentality and an open mindset to help bring an extra element to our workflow. 

At Superduper you will - 

Work closely with the character development team where the main focus will be to structure a workflow that will create the groom in Houdini and at the end of the day will move the result into Blender for shading, lighting and final rendering. The creative work requires believable hair, fur, and feather grooms for characters, props and environments.

Day to day you will - 

You will take part in the research and development process to build the workflow from Houdini to Blender. At the same time, you will work on your daily shots.

We are looking for someone that:

  • Has ability to comb and to work in Houdini with clumping modifiers on animals, characters, and more.

  • Clearly demonstrate knowledge of groom density, taper, and noise modifiers.

  • Has ability to recreate real-world elements such as fur, hair, and feathers.

  • Demonstrate ability to create a groom at the correct physical scale and size.

  • Has experience with dynamic simulation (like cloth, hair/fur and feathers) and specifically with Houdini Vellum solver.

  • Has knowledge of how a shader works and the ability to generate hair shader look-dev.

MUST HAVE 

  • 3-5 years experience in creative industries working with high profile clients/deliveries (cinematics, game production, animation, advertising or equivalent).

  • Experience with groom on similar projects to those listed above. 

  • Proven technical knowledge of Houdini grooming system.

  • Strong communication skills to describe and present your work with confidence.

  • Willing to show progress frequently and able to receive and discern feedback objectively.

  • A good software proficiency with the ability to use Houdini.

  • Knowledge of Blender is a plus.

  • Range of experience in project scope, we’ll be working on small quick things and much larger projects, this requires different types of approaches for different timelines.

  • A solution-oriented approach.

  • Basic ability with Python coding languages.
