About Osmoses ๐ฑ๐
Osmoses Inc. is a technology company revolutionizing the way industrial separations are performed today! Industrial separation processes account for 15% of the worldโs energy consumption and are responsible for 16% of CO2 emissions because we rely on energy-intensive technology. Changing this is one of the biggest opportunities to enable the energy transition.
We bring together a diverse and dynamic group of scientists, engineers, business professionals, and operators to develop and commercialize cutting-edge membrane technology that can reduce the impact of gas separations on the environment while increasing the economic incentive for our customers. Our groundbreaking separation solutions have the power to disrupt multi-billion dollar markets worldwide, reducing industrial energy consumption and accelerate the adoption of alternative energy sources with lower environmental impact.ย
Join us! Together, we can create a future where cleaner and more sustainable industrial processes become the norm.ย
Position Overview ๐ฏ
Osmoses Inc. is establishing a Product and Engineering team to spearhead the design, qualification, and deployment of small- and large-scale pilots for the first Osmoses product line. The team's primary focus will be on process engineering, pre- and post-pilot membrane testing, and meticulous planning and design efforts leading to commercial-scale pilots.
As the Product Design Engineering Manager, you will collaborate with the technology, engineering, and business teams to conceptualize and create the initial Osmoses prototype and commercial modules. Your immediate responsibilities will include identifying the precise specification requirements for module design and utilizing fluid dynamics modeling to assess various product configurations. In the long term, your role will encompass detailed membrane module design and separation skid development to meet specific customer demands.
What youโll be doing ๐
Collaborating with prospective customers and the engineering team to determine module design criteria that fulfill separation requirements and integrate with the customer's facility.
Compiling a product specification sheet for module fabrication, covering aspects such as materials selection, component dimensions, pressure rating, contaminant resistance, assembly protocols, and facility integration considerations.
Utilizing computational fluid dynamics models to simulate module operating conditions, including pressure drop and concentration polarization for different designs, such as hollow fiber and spiral wound in cross-flow or counter-flow configurations.
Conducting comprehensive materials selection for spiral wound and hollow fiber modules, ensuring appropriate choices for feed and permeate spacers, permeate tubes, end caps, interconnectors, outer wraps, and module casings.
Performing 3D modeling and design of Osmoses prototype and commercial modules.
Identifying available and reliable suppliers for module fabrication, engaging external vendors, and estimating component costs at scale.
Integrating module part costs into the overall costing model to project product costs at varying deployment scales, while maintaining optimal product quality and minimizing expenses.
Reviewing and developing product execution timelines.
Ensuring regulatory and engineering compliance for all product designs.
What weโre looking for ๐
A Bachelor's or Master's degree in chemical or mechanical engineering or a related field.
3-5+ years of industrial experience in the chemical, petrochemical, or separations industry.
Preferred 3+ years of industrial experience in module design and construction.
Proficiency in computational fluid dynamics modeling software.
Excellent technical skills in process analysis and strong problem-solving abilities.
Experience in project management and team coordination, along with exceptional organizational, writing, presentation, and oral communication skills.
Familiarity with industry-accepted codes for facility integration and construction.
Ability to adapt to evolving project scopes in response to customer or company needs.
Proven leadership experience and capability to effectively contribute within cross-functional teams in both leading and supporting roles.
Qualities weโre looking for ๐ก
Self-starter able to identify problems and take initiative to solve them (creative problem solver and critical thinker).
Accountability methodically organized, willing to report transparently on progress and collaboratively adjust approach when facing bumps in the road.
