Our AI-powered video evidence management platform enables public defense attorneys to more effectively identify relevant insights from audiovisual evidence and hold police accountable. By providing value for public defense attorneys through time saved, we aim to ensure fairer outcomes for those most vulnerable.
JusticeText was co-founded by Devshi Mehrotra and Leslie Jones-Dove in January 2019 while they were both computer science students at the University of Chicago. As technologists of color, our work is grounded in both a sociological and historical appreciation for the complexities of the American criminal justice system—with its gaping faults and inequality but also its capacity for reform. The founding team has been recognized by Forbes 30 Under 30, MIT Solve, and SXSW Pitch.
The company has raised over $2M in funding from Silicon Valley VC firms like Bloomberg Beta and True Ventures and angel investors like John Legend, Reid Hoffman, and Michael Tubbs.
The first iteration of the product was built in direct collaboration with the Cook County Public Defender's Office in Chicago. Since then, JusticeText has rapidly expanded to public defense agencies nationwide, including a flagship partnership with the Virginia Indigent Defense Commission.
JusticeText is hiring a Business Development Lead to accelerate sales to key customer segments. The role will be on a contractor basis, but with potential for a full time hire pending performance.
Generate leads by analyzing public databases, media coverage, community events hosted by relevant trade groups, and other sources
Craft compelling outreach to prospects across multiple channels (i.e. Twitter, LinkedIn, Email)
Independently host demos and discovery calls to increase awareness of the JusticeText offering
Design and execute engagement strategy to move prospects through sales funnel
Serve as a dedicated resource to answer prospects’ questions about use cases, features, and limitations
Lead pricing/usage negotiations, contracting, and invoicing as part of deal-closing process
Provide periodic written/verbal updates to executive team on progress toward sales quotas

Previous experience: 2-3 years of previous experience with B2B sales or similar previous client-facing experience.
Travel: This role will require in-person visits to partner agencies and participation in industry conferences.
Education: Bachelor’s degree
