Senior Art Director

At Artemis Ward, Senior Art Directors sit at the heart of our work, partnering with multidisciplinary teams to pair strategic insights with creative leadership so that our team arrives at solutions that are intelligent, beautiful, and impactful. The ideal candidate for this position can move seamlessly from concept to execution with a knack for delivering fresh perspectives that are informed by best practices and the latest thinking in the landscapes around us. At heart, they are systems-level thinkers who understand how discrete elements need to work together in order to deliver holistic brand experiences. And they are translators, too — able to understand and evaluate creative strategy and are comfortable communicating that strategy to other Artemis Ward designers as well as our clients.

This position is based in our Washington, D.C., office.

Core Responsibilities:

• Leads efforts in developing creative concepts and executions in a cross-disciplinary manner, partnering with art directors, strategists, writers, and designers to craft smart, innovative creative solutions.

• Brings a strong perspective of innovation and creativity, leading agency best practices, driving awareness of industry standards, and adapting to changing technology.

• Inspires team members to level up their creative thinking through focused direction, guidance, and mentorship.

• Provide creative leadership around social media content creation, strengthening our point of view for clients and education for internal team members.

• Experience leveraging social media learnings and performance data to pivot and optimize creative outputs.

• Offers hands-on direction to ensure quality in everything we produce.

• Contributes to new business proposals, presentations, scoping, and planning.

• Shows up to work each day with a collaborative spirit and a positive attitude.

Must haves:

• 8-10 years relevant experience at an agency or in-house

• Experience in leading designers and design efforts at an agency or in-house

• Strong portfolio rooted in digital visual design

• Aptitude and understanding for the speed and evolution of social media, and the nuances of creating content for various platforms.

• Great creative problem-solver, flexible in adapting to the ever-evolving landscape of social media content creation

• Excellent working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, including proficiency in After Effects (or another animation platform for animating designs)

• High drive and pride in your work
