About Themis

Themis is a collaborative governance, risk, and compliance platform helping banks, credit unions, and fintechs streamline oversight, strengthen compliance programs, and move faster with confidence.

Our customers operate in highly regulated environments where strong governance, risk management, and compliance practices are critical. We partner closely with financial institutions and fintechs to help them build scalable, effective oversight programs, strengthen third-party oversight, and navigate an increasingly complex regulatory landscape.

At Themis, we believe great companies are built through partnership, expertise, ownership, and execution. We’re looking for team members who are excited to solve meaningful problems, build trusted relationships, and help shape the future of governance, risk, and compliance.

About the Role

We’re looking for a DevOps Engineer to build and operate the infrastructure that keeps Themis secure, reliable, and fast as we scale.

In this role you’ll own the systems that let our engineers ship with confidence: cloud infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, observability, and the security and compliance controls our customers in financial services expect. You’ll automate the toilsome, harden the critical, and help us maintain the kind of reliability and trust that regulated institutions require.

The ideal candidate is pragmatic and security-minded, comfortable owning infrastructure end to end, and motivated by making other engineers more productive. You treat reliability and security as features, not afterthoughts.

Working Hours & Availability

Themis is a remote-first team. Engineering operates with flexible working hours and supports asynchronous work, but all engineers are expected to maintain meaningful daily overlap with our core collaboration hours of approximately 11:00 AM–4:00 PM ET for standups, pairing, code review, and time-sensitive work.

This role participates in a shared on-call rotation and requires availability outside of standard business hours to respond to incidents, maintain uptime, and support production systems. We aim to keep on-call sustainable through fair rotations, strong tooling, and follow-up to reduce recurring issues.

We support flexibility where possible, but regular or extended blocks of unavailable time during core hours should be discussed and aligned in advance.

What You’ll Do

Infrastructure & Automation

  • Design, build, and maintain cloud infrastructure using infrastructure-as-code

  • Own and improve CI/CD pipelines to enable fast, safe, and frequent deployments

  • Automate provisioning, configuration, scaling, and routine operational tasks

  • Manage containerized workloads and orchestration (e.g., Docker and Kubernetes)

Reliability & Observability

  • Build monitoring, logging, alerting, and dashboards to ensure system health and performance

  • Define and improve incident response processes and participate in on-call rotations

  • Drive reliability improvements, capacity planning, and performance tuning

  • Lead blameless post-incident reviews and follow through on corrective actions

Security & Compliance

  • Implement and maintain security controls, access management, and secrets management

  • Support audit, SOC 2, and other compliance requirements relevant to financial services customers

  • Partner with engineering to embed security and compliance into the development lifecycle

Required Qualifications

  • Experience operating production infrastructure on a major cloud provider (AWS, GCP, or Azure)

  • Proficiency with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform)

  • Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines

  • Experience with containers and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes)

  • Strong scripting or programming skills (e.g., Python, Go, or Bash)

  • Solid understanding of networking, security, and observability fundamentals

  • Ability to own systems end to end and manage incidents calmly

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting SOC 2, audits, or other compliance and security frameworks

  • Experience in financial services, fintech, or other regulated or high-availability environments

  • Experience with secrets management, identity, and zero-trust patterns

  • Experience scaling infrastructure at a startup or high-growth company

  • Familiarity with AI and automation tooling for operations
