Terragia (terragiabiofuel.com) is a startup founded in October 2022 dedicated to development and commercial deployment of low-cost technology for production of cellulosic biofuels. Built on decades of pioneering research led by Dartmouth Professor Lee Lynd, Terragia’s unique consolidated bioprocessing (CBP) technology has documented potential to be cost-competitive with fossil fuels while realizing net removal of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. The company seeks lab managers with a diverse of skills to aid in a joint development project undertaken with a strategic partner. We are inspired by the prospect of playing a key role in climate stabilization and rural economic development and are looking to rapidly add capable individuals to our team.

Position Overview:

Terragia is seeking a highly skilled and motivated lab manager. The lab manager will play a critical role in overseeing daily laboratory equipment, operations and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to groundbreaking advancements in biofuel technology while working in a collaborative and fast-paced startup environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Laboratory Management

  • Manage company lab equipment and facilities, including equipment maintenance, minor repairs and the setup of new laboratory equipment, working with Terragia’s landlords as required.

  • Manage procurement of lab supplies, working team members to ensure adequate inventory at all times.

  • Manage and communicate company standard procedures.

  • Ensure efficient resource utilization and budget adherence.

  • Coordinate and play a lead role in moving the company into new laboratory space.

Safety & Compliance

  • Develop safety and waste protocols and processes, working with company management and landlords as required.

  • Enforce safety and waste protocols, conduct training sessions, and promote safe lab practices.

  • Stay updated ensure compliance with industry standards and state regulations.

  • Engage with outside contractors on safety and waste matters, as required.


  • Proven aptitude for equipment, operations and facilities.

  • Experience in laboratory management is desired, preferably in a research or industrial setting.

  • Associates, Bachelor's or Master's degree. Majors in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, chemical engineering, or other sciences are preferred. Some college-level classwork in the sciences is required.

  • Excellent organizational and project management skills, with a keen attention to detail.

  • Knowledge of current safety regulations and standards.

  • Effective communication skills and ability to collaborate across teams.
