Sora Fuel

Sora Fuel aims to decarbonize aviation by converting air into affordable, carbon-neutral jet fuel at scale with no feedstock constraints or adverse impacts on agriculture. Our novel electrolysis technology directly converts captured carbon via direct air capture (DAC) into syngas without needing to regenerate CO2, thereby reducing the energy required by up to 90%. This provides an economical pathway to carbon-neutral flight, potentially addressing >2% of global emissions.

The company was founded in early 2024 with funding from renowned toughtech investor Engine Ventures. We exceeded our initial technical goals and are actively recruiting for a range of roles to scale the technology for a Demonstration Plant. We seek to build a diverse, collaborative team that shares our enthusiasm and drive to meaningfully address climate change.

Role

The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for supporting the design, construction and deployment of Sora Fuel’s pilot and demo scale SAF production system. This includes: mechanical design, prototyping, fabrication, and procurement. The Mechanical Engineer will primarily interface with the Engineering team but will act as a bridge with the Science teams as we push forward towards full scale pilot production. The ideal candidate has a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a related field with relevant design, fabrication and/or start up experience. In addition the ideal candidate is a natural tinkerer, works collaboratively, and is a self starter.
