Prox is hiring a Computational Biologist

As a Computational Biologist on our team, you’ll drive the build and expansion of our computational platform that accelerates antibody design, engineering, and optimization. You will play an integral role in designing clinic-bound therapeutics. Your title will be commensurate with experience. This role reports directly to the CEO.

The Company and Team

Prox Biosciences is an early-stage biotech company developing targeted biologics. We use a mix of high-throughput computational and experimental tools to rapidly design molecules and efficiently build new biologics. Prox was founded by awesome immunologists from UCSF, Stanford, and Penn, and protein engineers from Alloy, MIT, and Stanford. We’re supported by exceptional biotech investors.

The Role

Prox is excited to bring onboard an innovative, self-motivated computational biologist to drive the computational design and engineering of antibody-based therapeutics. In this role, you will play a direct role in building out our computational platform across diverse disciplines. As an early team member of Prox, you will play a integral role in guiding the company’s trajectory and contributing deeply to therapeutic molecules. This role offers independence, creativity, and opportunity for rapid growth alongside an our ambitious trajectory for Prox.

About You

  • You want to create new therapeutics. You have experience contributing to the development of new medicines through computational work. You are excited to apply and hone this expertise at Prox. Being a drug hunter excites you.

  • You never stop learning. You are driven by the opportunity to broaden your skills beyond your initial area(s) of expertise and have experience quickly learning and executing new computational methods and approaches.

  • You excel as part of a mission-oriented team. You are looking for more line-of-sight and agency to build new therapeutics and want to make an outsized impact. You’re not afraid to offer your perspective, ask questions, and bias towards action.

  • You’re inspired by the work. You are intrinsically motivated by the work and demonstrate strong work ethic, strong time management skills, and the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.

How You’ll Drive Impact

  • Establish: You will collaborate with the team to establish a top-notch R&D organization that can execute a variety of computational workflows to generate critical data packages. This includes data collection, data management, the design and execution of reproducible, modular computational workflows, and data visualization.

  • Execute: You will drive science forward. This includes extensive computational work including the analysis of -omics and protein sequence data. This also includes collaborating and managing CRO engagement to execute other critical computational R&D activities.

  • Innovate: You will have ownership and agency around our science and our therapeutic pipeline, empowering you to innovate and drive direction in collaboration with our team. You will engage the broader scientific community, synthesize emerging science, and use your expertise to help build exceptional therapeutic molecules.

Qualifications

Qualifications vary by desired level.

  • Proven computational capabilities with fluency in Python, R, Github, and cloud compute tools and platforms. You have a strong background in the underpinning stats/maths of your computational methods and tools. This may be demonstrated by scientific publications, industry experience, and references.

  • Previous and demonstrable experience in analyzing multi-omic data. Similarly, this is preferably demonstrated by scientific publications and/or industry experience with references.

  • Strong analytical and communication skills enabling you to effectively present results, synthesize conclusions, and identify action items with the team.

  • Optimistic interpersonal skills that allow you to build strong relationships with the team and contribute to a positive, empowering team culture through collaboration and mentorship.

  • Demonstrated entrepreneurial or intrapreneurial activity that aligns with the high-intensity, fast-paced environment of a Seed-stage company. This can take the shape of so many different activities, such as being an internal champion for a new initiative, prior experience at an early-stage biotech company, or other examples of leadership and/or a bias towards action.

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD in a relevant domain (Computer Science, Biology, Engineering) with 0-5 years of experience in industry.

What we need to hire you

  • Ability to work in the Kendall Square office at least 2 days a week

  • Ability to travel (<10% of the time) to conferences or events
