Prox is hiring a Scientist - Immunology

As a Scientist (Immunology) on our team, you’ll drive the design and testing of therapeutic molecules by leading a range of immune cell workflows. Ultimately, you’ll play a key role in bringing molecules to the clinic. We’re looking at multiple levels for this role, from Associate Scientist to Senior Scientist.

The Company and Team

Prox Biosciences is an early-stage biotech company developing targeted biologics. We use a mix of high-throughput computational and experimental tools to rapidly design molecules and efficiently build therapeutics. Prox was founded by awesome immunologists from UCSF, Stanford, and Penn, and protein engineers from Alloy, MIT, and Stanford. We’re supported by exceptional biotech investors.

The Role

Prox is excited to bring onboard an innovative, self-motivated scientist to drive discovery and design of new therapeutic molecules. In this role, you will profile and perturb immune cell subpopulations to nominate and test molecular designs. As an early team member of Prox, you will help us achieve critical milestones and guide the company’s trajectory. This role offers independence, creativity, and opportunity for rapid growth alongside an ambitious trajectory for Prox.

About You

  • You want to create new therapeutics. You have experience contributing to the development of new therapeutic molecules (at any stage) through deep immunological expertise from driving target discovery to managing preclinical studies. You are excited to apply and hone this expertise at Prox.

  • You never stop learning. You are driven by the opportunity to broaden your skills beyond your initial area(s) of expertise and have experience quickly learning and executing in new areas of science.

  • You excel as part of a mission-oriented team. You are looking for more line-of-sight and agency to build new therapeutics and want to make an outsized impact. You’re not afraid to offer your perspective, ask questions, and bias towards action.

  • You’re inspired by the work. You are intrinsically motivated by the work and demonstrate strong work ethic, strong time management skills, and the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.

How You Will Drive Impact

  • Establish: You will collaborate with the team to establish a top-notch R&D organization that can execute key assays, protocols, and workflows to generate critical data packages. This includes procuring reagents, validating protocols, and standardizing workflows related to mammalian cell culture, in vitro functional and phenotypic assays, and in vivo experimental design and planning.

  • Execute: You will drive science forward. This includes extensive lab work including primary human cell culture, flow cytometry, in vitro functional and phenotypic assays. This also includes collaborating and managing CRO engagement to execute other critical R&D activities.

  • Innovate: You will have ownership and agency around our science and our therapeutic pipeline, empowering you to innovate and drive direction in collaboration with our team. You will engage the broader scientific community, synthesize emerging science, and use your expertise to help build exceptional therapeutic molecules. You will serve as an immunology subject matter expert drawing expertise from your own background and our Scientific Advisory Board.

Qualifications

Qualifications vary by desired level.

  • Proven experience in the lab in immunology and/or translational medicine as demonstrated by scientific publications, industry experience, and references. This includes hands-on experience in vitro cell-based assays, flow cytometry, and/or in vivo studies, This may be exemplified by a productive PhD or postdoc and/or industry experience.

  • Strong analytical and communication skills enabling you to effectively present results, synthesize conclusions, and identify action items with the team.

  • Optimistic interpersonal skills that allow you to build strong relationships with the team and contribute to a positive, empowering team culture

  • Demonstrated entrepreneurial or intrapreneurial activity that aligns with the high-intensity, fast-paced environment of a Seed-stage company. This can take the shape of so many different activities, such as being an internal champion for a new initiative, prior experience at an early-stage biotech company, or other examples of leadership and/or a bias towards action.

What we need to hire you

  • Ability to work in the lab in Kendall Square

  • Ability to travel (<10% of the time) to conferences or events
