Associate Editor — Pirate Wires Daily Lead

We’re looking for a sharp, creative operator to work alongside our Executive Editor in shaping the editorial engine of Pirate Wires. This is a high-impact role for a high-agency writer-editor — someone with serious taste, a nose for the next big story, and the range to jump from editorial strategy to real-time publishing without dropping a beat.

Ideal for a former disgruntled English major who wanted to change the world and wound up writing clickbait. (You don’t need an English degree. We don’t care if you went to college.)

YOUR ROLE: As Associate Editor, you'll help lead Pirate Wires Daily — our fast-moving daily newsletter covering technology, politics, and culture. Key responsibilities:

· Editorial Strategy: Work closely with the Managing Editor to shape and execute high-level editorial direction, manage the pipeline, and refine internal workflows.

· Pirate Wires Daily: Manage our team of writers and contributors writing the best daily newsletter on the planet. Witty, irreverent, and a major growth driver for Pirate Wires.

· Writer Development: Source and onboard new contributors, manage relationships with freelancers and staff, and take full ownership of a major coverage vertical.

· Story Development: Help conceive, assign, and sharpen story ideas with the team — including the Managing Editor, staff writers, and Editor-in-Chief.

· Editing & Quality Control: Fact-check, proofread, and occasionally perform full-blown surgery on drafts to ensure everything we publish is sharp, accurate, and unmistakably Pirate Wires.

· Writing & Social: Pitch your own pieces, write when needed, and help program our social media accounts with punchy, well-timed takes.

· News Instincts: Be on-call when a story breaks. You’ll need to move fast and help decide whether we jump on it — and how.

· Trendspotting: Constantly surface the strange, exciting, and undercovered currents moving beneath the media landscape.

TO APPLY: Send us a few writing samples and at least two story ideas. We may ask you to draft one as part of the process.
