Who we are
Othersphere identifies the most profitable and sustainable locations for deployment of zero / low GHG industrial technologies, with initial focus on hydrogen. Our software platform tightly integrates energy systems models and geospatial analytics to enable:
Faster deployment of more beneficial projects
Democratized access to critical market insights
Reduced long-term GHG emissions trajectories
Our early development funding and support was provided by Breakthrough Energy and Google for Startups, and we have recently closed an equity investment round with participation from leading climate-focused investors. We are currently in closed beta mode, with product launch planned for late 2023. We are currently operating with a limited public profile, but are happy to provide further information on team, strategy, and mission during the application process.
Othersphere is incorporated as a Benefit Company, and we seek candidates with a personal commitment to fairness, humility, curiosity, and passion for positive impact—values that are central to our mission. We are committed to representation and inclusion, and we welcome applicants with diverse perspectives and backgrounds.
Responsibilities
We are seeking a unique individual who will lead selection and/or creation of datasets that will inform the Othersphere platform. This work is critical, as the quality of this data will determine the actionability and impact of our products. The ideal candidate is a data scientist with relevant subject matter expertise and commercial awareness, who will:
Seek out existing datasets to drive the Othersphere analytical platform, leveraging 5+ years of prior experience with geospatial and time series data related to commodity markets, energy infrastructure, environmental, and/or human factors
Utilize deep expertise in data science and familiarity with common tools (we’re built on GCP) to assess and characterize quality of potential datasets
Manage the creation of new datasets for high consequence topics where no viable sources are available, utilizing a mixture of statistical methods, scraping, and/or partnerships with commercial firms or academia
Collaborate closely with CEO on overall platform direction, product team on data requirements, and backend team who manages ingestion pipelines
Over time build out and lead a platform data team that’s highly motivated to work on hard problems and deliver meaningful global impact
This is just the beginning – we would love for you to contribute to the development of new solutions as part of our broader strategy
Our responsibilities
We seek to build and maintain an exciting and inclusive working culture where you feel safe expressing who you are, making you feel valued and respected, and giving you an opportunity to thrive and build a product you can be proud of.
In addition to this, we will provide:
Freedom to make decisions on tools, technologies, and features that support overall Othersphere direction
A continuous integration and deployment pipeline that allows you to iterate as rapidly as you can, and spend your energy building features rather than wrestling with tools
Availability from everyone on the team to answer questions and help get you un-blocked as quickly as possible
The opportunity to build a world-class analysis platform to help improve our collective interaction with complex human and environmental systems
Compensation and benefits
Othersphere provides competitive compensation, benefits, and company equity commensurate with experience. For this role the expected salary range is $120,000 to $160,000 Canadian dollars per year, or local equivalent. We are a remote-first organization headquartered in Victoria, BC, Canada, with a growing presence in Europe. But irrespective of where you sit, we are actively working to foster team cohesion and personal connection through annual company retreats and regular in-person get-togethers.
