Who we are
Othersphere identifies the most profitable and sustainable locations for deployment of zero / low GHG industrial technologies, with initial focus on hydrogen. Our software platform tightly integrates energy systems models and geospatial analytics to enable:
Faster deployment of more beneficial projects
Democratized access to critical market insights
Reduced long-term GHG emissions trajectories
Our early development funding and support was provided by Breakthrough Energy and Google for Startups, and we have recently closed an equity investment round with participation from leading climate-focused investors. We are currently in closed beta mode, with product launch planned for late 2023. We are currently operating with a limited public profile, but are happy to provide further information on team, strategy, and mission during the application process.
Othersphere is incorporated as a Benefit Company, and we seek candidates with a personal commitment to fairness, humility, curiosity, and passion for positive impact—values that are central to our mission. We are committed to representation and inclusion, and we welcome applicants with diverse perspectives and backgrounds.
Responsibilities
Othersphere seeks a talented and ambitious senior analyst to join our growing team.
You will start by developing and refining world-first systems models to enable granular, spatially-aware optimization of hydrogen and hydrogen-derivative infrastructure at a previously unparalleled scale. In addition, you will support the development of integrated emission and cost models for offtake sites across the globe in guiding decision making around decarbonization pathways and associated feedstock supply opportunities.
In particular, we would expect you to:
Develop new spatially-aware analytical models as part of our analytics engine (Python), also evaluating and enhancing existing models
Bring deep industry and/or academic expertise in hydrogen and PtX transportation optimization across transportation mediums and markets
Additional experience in the economic evaluation of hydrogen offtake is beneficial but not required
Collaborate closely with the Chief Product Officer, Product Analytics Lead, and wider team to shape and execute on the product, data, and analytics strategy
Continuously research and integrate the latest advancements in hydrogen technologies and market dynamics, as well as ever-evolving geospatial analysis and energy system modelling techniques and technologies
This is just the beginning – we would love for you to contribute to the development of new complex, analytics-rich SaaS solutions as part of our broader strategy
Our responsibilities
We seek to build and maintain an exciting and inclusive working culture where you feel safe expressing who you are, making you feel valued and respected, and giving you an opportunity to thrive and build a product you can be proud of.
In addition to this, we will provide:
Freedom to make decisions on tools, technologies, and approach, as long as they are reasonable and match our goals and direction
A stable API to build against, and a fast response when you require changes or improvements
A continuous integration and deployment pipeline that allows you to iterate as rapidly as you can, and spend your energy building features rather than wrestling with tools
Availability from everyone on the team to answer questions and help get you un-blocked as quickly as possible
Compensation and benefits
Othersphere provides competitive compensation, benefits, and company equity commensurate with experience. For this role, the expected salary range is $90,000 to $120,000 Canadian dollars, or the local equivalent (e.g. €63.000-€83.000 in Europe). We are a remote-first organization headquartered in Victoria, BC, Canada, with a growing European presence. But irrespective of where you sit, we are actively working to foster team cohesion and personal connection through annual company retreats and regular in-person get-togethers.
