Who we are
Othersphere identifies the most profitable and sustainable locations for deployment of zero / low GHG industrial technologies, with initial focus on hydrogen. Our software platform tightly integrates energy systems models and geospatial analytics to enable:
Faster deployment of more beneficial projects
Democratized access to critical market insights
Reduced long-term GHG emissions trajectories
Our early development funding and support was provided by Breakthrough Energy and Google for Startups, and we have recently closed an equity investment round with participation from leading climate-focused investors. We are currently in closed beta mode, with product launch planned for late 2023. We are currently operating with a limited public profile, but are happy to provide further information on team, strategy, and mission during the application process.
Othersphere is incorporated as a Benefit Company, and we seek candidates with a personal commitment to fairness, humility, curiosity, and passion for positive impact—values that are central to our mission. We are committed to representation and inclusion, and we welcome applicants with diverse perspectives and backgrounds.
Responsibilities
Othersphere seeks a talented and ambitious Energy Analytics Lead to join our growing team. As part of this role, you’ll work closely with leadership and core advisors to revolutionize deployment of zero / low GHG industrial technologies.
You will start by leading the development and refinement of world-first systems models that enable granular, spatially-aware optimization of project deployment based on economics, emissions, and fit with local surroundings. To achieve this you will:
Lead the development of new spatially-aware analytical models as part of our analytics engine (Python), also evaluating and enhancing existing models
Bring deep expertise in grid modelling, renewable energy, and/or hydrogen / power-to-X (H2 and PtX experience seen as beneficial but not required)
Build out and eventually lead a modelling and analytics team highly motivated to work on hard problems in delivering meaningful climate impact
Work closely with the CPO to shape and execute on the product, data, and analytics strategy
This is just the beginning – we would love for you to contribute to the development of new solutions as part of our broader strategy
Our responsibilities
We seek to build and maintain an exciting and inclusive working culture where you feel safe expressing who you are, making you feel valued and respected, and giving you an opportunity to thrive and build a product you can be proud of.
In addition to this, we will provide:
Freedom to make decisions on tools, technologies, and features that support overall Othersphere direction
A stable API to build against, and a fast response when you require changes or improvements
A continuous integration and deployment pipeline that allows you to iterate as rapidly as you can, and spend your energy building features rather than wrestling with tools
Availability from everyone on the team to answer questions and help get you un-blocked as quickly as possible
Compensation and benefits
Othersphere provides competitive compensation, benefits, and company equity commensurate with experience. For this role, the expected salary range is $110,000 to $145,000 Canadian dollars, or the local equivalent (e.g. €75.000-€100.000 in Europe). We are a remote-first organization headquartered in Victoria, BC, Canada, with a growing European presence. But irrespective of where you sit, we are actively working to foster team cohesion and personal connection through annual company retreats and regular in-person get-togethers.
