Who we are

Othersphere identifies the most profitable and sustainable locations for deployment of zero / low GHG industrial technologies, with initial focus on hydrogen. The Othersphere software platform tightly integrates energy systems models and geospatial analytics to accelerate the Industrial Evolution and enable:

  • Faster deployment of more beneficial projects

  • Democratized access to critical market insights

  • Reduced long-term GHG emissions trajectories

Othersphere is in pre-launch mode, with general product release targeted for H2 2023. Development funding is being provided by Breakthrough Energy, with further details on team, strategy, and mission available through discussions.

Othersphere is incorporated as a Benefit Company, and we seek candidates with a personal commitment to fairness, humility, curiosity, and passion for positive impact—values that are central to our mission. We are committed to representation and inclusion, and we welcome applicants with diverse perspectives and backgrounds.

Responsibilities

Othersphere is seeking a skilled front-end developer to build out the initial user interface to our product. You'll work closely with Othersphere’s CEO, team, and core advisors to bring our technology directly to our users, and leverage your creativity and experience to help shape the direction of our product.

You would be building out a front-end web-app in a modern SPA framework*. In particular we would expect you to:

  • Evaluate existing, or build from scratch, geospatial analytics components, in particular high-performance maps with H3 tile overlays (e.g. https://explorer.helium.com/)

  • Develop visually impressive reactive charts and metrics which seamlessly update as dashboard inputs are changed

  • Work with existing component libraries and styling toolkits to accelerate development, e.g. MUI, Tailwind, Bootstrap (no preference from our side)

  • Build from low-fidelity designs - we do not have a comprehensive design specification we are building to

  • Iterate rapidly and release new versions often

* Note that we have a preference for React, as it matches skill-sets already on the team and has a lot of third-party library support for geospatial components, but we’re open to discussion.

Our responsibilities

We seek to build and maintain an exciting and inclusive working culture where you feel safe expressing who you are, making you feel valued and respected, and giving you an opportunity to thrive and build a product you can be proud of.

In addition to this, we will provide:

  • Freedom to make decisions on tools, technologies, and features, as long as they are reasonable and match our goals and direction

  • A stable API to build against, and a fast response when you require changes or improvements

  • A continuous integration and deployment pipeline to allow you to iterate as rapidly as you can, and spend your energy building features rather than wrestling with tools

  • Availability from everyone on the team to answer questions and help get you un-blocked as quickly as possible

Compensation and benefits

Othersphere provides competitive compensation commensurate with experience. This role is an initial short-term contract position, but can expand into a full-time position based on company need and individual performance. We are a remote-first organization headquartered in British Columbia, Canada, but working to foster team cohesion and personal connection through annual company retreats and regular in-person get-togethers.
