Description: The Accounting Associate will be responsible for assisting with the day-to-day operations of the accounting department by regularly performing complex clerical, bookkeeping, and accounting assignments. Mutual seeks an individual with an ability to clearly communicate and work with stakeholders; both internal (members of the Accounting team and other Mutual staff) and external (clients and vendors). The successful candidate would be able to work with evolving technology, platforms, and processes, and the ability to independently research issues that don’t have immediate solutions. In addition, this individual will need to be comfortable working in a rapidly growing, entrepreneurial environment.         

Minimum Responsibilities and Qualifications

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in preparation of periodic financial statements and reports and corporate annual reports, adhering to strict deadlines.

  • Process Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable and help create guidelines for proper handling and coding of invoices to maintain general ledger records

  • Ensures proper recordkeeping of purchases, as well as proper maintenance, filing, and storage of records for use in tax preparation and periodic audits.

  • Process advisor and representative payroll and prepare necessary payroll reports.

  • Coordinates with Company’s various vendors and institutions to identify and reconcile accounting-related issues

  • Proof accounting reports for clerical accuracy

  • Document policies and procedures, and periodically make updates to documentation as needed/recommended

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

 Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Extensive knowledge of general financial accounting and cost accounting.

  • Thorough understanding and ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles as well as bookkeeping practices and procedures

  • Ability to work under the pressure of strict deadlines.

  • Knowledge of office practices and clerical/accounting procedures.

  • Excellent organizational skills, time management skills, and attention to detail.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.

  • Proficient in the use of QuickBooks (Desktop and Online) and other bookkeeping applications.

  • Highly proficient in the use of Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office365-based applications (SharePoint, Outlook, Word, etc.)

  • Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new technology and processes implemented by the organization.

 Education, Experience, License/Certification Requirements: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent required, with some bookkeeping coursework.

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting preferred

  • Preference given to candidates with working knowledge of investment product commission reconciliation

  • Preference given to candidates with relevant experience working for FINRA & SEC-regulated entities

Salary Range: 

  • $42,000 - $63,000 per year

 Job Type:

 Location: 

We believe valuable experience can be gained from working on-site, but we will consider hybrid and remote arrangements as well.
