Mission
Founded in 2021, mprs (pronounced “Empress”) is a Series A stage music-tech business creating a new category of rights management for music producers and mixers. We advocate for our producer and mixer clients, enabling them to reconsider the way they do business and influencing the direction of the overall industry.
Company
We are a small team of music industry and royalty experts who have banded together to solve a complex set of administrative challenges on behalf of some of the most important creatives in music. We’ve raised money from key music industry professionals. Our technology is proven and in use by multiple top-tier music producers and mixers.
Role
We’re seeking a highly capable Director of Finance. You will work closely with our executive team in developing all aspects of our financial processes. This work is paramount to all aspects of the company’s core product and internal operations. We hope you will play a pivotal role in shaping our workflows around financial controls as we continue to grow the team.
You’ll be working on the following core components of our operations:
Preparing financial statements with our client services team detailing label and other payor cash flows as we report semi-annually to clients
Assisting in planning and tracking the annual budgeting exercises with our executive team
Overseeing client-specific bank account creation, income tracking and inter-account transactions
Reconciling client cash flows from multiple sources to disparate destinations to account for every penny
Maintaining our internal general ledger and closing the books monthly
Invoicing record labels for client advances, non-recoupable fees and other periodic reporting payments
Processing accounts payable, accounts receivable and internal expense reimbursements
Interfacing with our payroll provider to see to timely compensation to all employees
Collaborating with tax professionals to ensure proper tax filings
Modeling finances for intellectual property acquisition and advance deployment where applicable
Deploying capital from our credit facilities and balance sheet when necessary
Qualities we value
Music lover - strong appreciation for the art and a determination to empower musicians to be successful
Builder attitude - Envision and implement processes from start to finish
Comfort with ambiguity - We are small and scrappy, and while we prioritize being clear and thoughtful with requirements, we often find ourselves in uncharted territory that requires us to iterate and judge our success empirically
Security first approach - We deal every day with sensitive financial data and that forces us to consider our roles as fiduciaries of this data every step of the way
Music industry domain expertise, especially with royalties, is a plus but we have robust documentation and a team that is more than willing to help train you in all aspects of this
Competencies we require
3+ years of relevant experience and bachelor degree in accounting / finance
Strong accounting skills and knowledge of GAAP and SEC reporting requirements
CPA certification is a plus, as is prior experience with a Big 4 CPA firm
Remote restrictions
- Must be a resident of United States
