Mantel is a seed-stage startup backed by leading climate-tech venture capital firms. Mantel, born out of MIT, was founded by two MIT scientists and a Harvard MBA.

Mantel is developing the material solution to carbon capture. Our molten borates are designed to operate at the high temperatures found inside boilers, kilns, and furnaces – enabling highly efficient carbon capture that has not been possible until now. Carbon capture can be applied across industry to reduce emissions - and even achieve net-negative emissions. By solving for efficiency Mantel can reduce energy losses by more than 60% and cut costs in half, unlocking carbon capture’s role in reaching net-zero emissions globally.

The position will be required to interface with external suppliers and contractors regarding the design and build of demonstration and commercial carbon capture facilities.  Initial tasks will include basic engineering and detailed design, with a focus on structural material selection, and molten salt system and component design. The ideal candidate has experience with technology development, testing, and operation in an industrial setting and is an excellent verbal and written communicator. Mantel is looking for a problem solver who can think outside the box and works well both independently and in a team environment.

  • Education: Undergraduate degree in Materials Science or equivalent. Additional education is considered a plus but not required.

  • Previous experience with molten salts, high temperature material selection, corrosion, carbon capture and thermal system design is highly desirable. Concentrated solar experience is a plus.
