About this role: Global Press is hiring a global editorial associate to support reporters across the world with operations, logistics, Duty of Care and more. The global editorial associate reports to the Managing Editor and collaborates across the newsroom and leadership teams to ensure editorial efficiency by supporting all aspects of the newsroom, including the Global Press Accuracy Network.  

Qualifications: 

This job is open to any current GPAN member or Global Press Journal reporter in good standing who has the following:

  • Fluency in English with exceptional written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong organizational skills with a keen eye for detail and ability to multitask

  • Experience in a newsroom with editorial processes and procedures

  • Deep passion for Duty of Care with a desire to implement and manage core procedures to keep reporters safe and well 


Responsibilities: 

Operations & Logistics

  • Develop and maintain SOPs for any new operations-related processes created at Global Press Journal

  • Ensure all technology and property are well accounted for and managed, including leading the partnership with Hofy, our new hardware provider

  • Maintain, create, and track software accounts for various employee types throughout the organization

  • Manage editorial logistics related to booking travel, submitting conference and award applications

  • Design, implement, and analyze surveys to track reporter equipment usage and budget needs

  • Assist Managing Editor in monitoring productivity and efficiency in Editflow and Asana 


Duty of Care

  • Serve as a key leader in Global Press’ award-winning Duty of Care program, filing timely incident reports, communicating urgent needs about reporter safety, and coordinating with Duty of Care liaisons

  • Review reporter travel story plans and create check in plans for reporter travel; oversee the check- in process on a day-to-day basis.

  • Oversee the travel story process for reporters and assist editorial staff and contractors in ensuring Duty of Care processes and protocols are followed, as relates to reporter travel for Global Press Journal


Communications

  • Field daily inquiries from reporters to the appropriate personnel related to travel, software and hardware needs, internet connectivity, financial requests, leave, professional development, policies, etc.

  • Collect, track, and communicate leave requests from reporters and maintain organizational leave calendars for team members outside of the US-based HRIS system

  •  Assist newsroom leadership with scheduling editorial meetings and creating calendar invites


Onboarding and GPAN Management

  • Monitor, field, and assign translation requests for core team members and, in some cases, reporters; provide direction for assignments to translators.

  • Support and coordinate employee, contractor, and intern onboarding, including coordinating all welcome materials and meetings, technology and software acquisition, and benefits administration.

  • Collaborate with the Director of Global Expansion to ensure that all bureau locations have appropriate licenses and that team members have the appropriate press passes, business cards, and media accreditations.

  • Collaborate with Global Press Institute to assist with the transition of new reporters in the newsroom. 

  • Support newsroom leadership with the recruitment and testing process for editorial and Global Press Accuracy Network (GPAN) applicants; review CVs and conduct candidate screening calls; facilitate all related meetings and onboarding-related communications.

  • Collaborate with the Managing Editor to ensure the GPAN team is well-managed and onboarded to Global Press.

  •  Support GPAN team with ongoing projects (ie Style Guide, glossary updates)
