About the company

Imagine an unprecedented material innovation that catalyzes the transition of the wind, transportation, and manufacturing industries toward net-zero emission. At Gencores, we are spearheading this complex yet achievable transition.

We are developing new material chemistry, unique high-throughput additive manufacturing technology, and a smart robotic platform to produce ultra-light and structural metamaterials at scale. Wrapped in fiber-reinforced skins, our outperforming components can replace metal parts and make vehicles and wind turbines drastically lighter and more efficient. Our developments are supported by the largest global climate fund, M.I.T, the U.S. Department of Energy, the National Science Foundation, and the most innovative corporate partners.

About the role

We are rapidly growing our core team. If you are a mission-driven scientist or engineer with experience in material design and development and you are excited to break new ground in the field, join Gencores. You will be part of a fast-growing, interdisciplinary team of professionals working closely together to reinvent our industries.

Your essential job responsibilities:

  • Conduct research to control the Physico-chemical mechanisms enabling the creation of Gencores metamaterials

  • Design, produce and test metamaterials, and build metrics and methods to improve end-part quality, function, and performance

  • Organize and file experimental protocols in form of SOPs

  • Collaborate with our software, hardware, and multi-scale optimization teams to advance material development and material processing

  • Report and present data analysis through group presentations and written reports

  • Manage and advance client and supplier relationships

Your experience or skills:

These points are here to give you an idea of what we think would be a good fit for the job. They are not hard requirements. If you do not fit them perfectly but feel like you would do the job well, do not hesitate to apply!

  • Able and passionate about interacting with the material and the equipment to improve product performance

  • Strong understanding of physics and experience with formulating or doping a wide range of high-performance resins, films, adhesives, foams, or other plastics.

  • Strong competency in ASTM testing and data analysis for linear and non-linear mechanics at room and elevated temperatures using Instron or similar testers, DSC, DMA, rheology, FT-IR

  • Experience with data analytics using existing software or programming (Python, JMP, Minitab, Tableau)

  • Able to keep developments on track, balancing speed and scientific rigor, within budget

  • Excellent communication skills with team members and external partners such as suppliers and clients

Our preferred qualifications:

  • B.Sc., M.Sc., or Ph.D. in Polymer Science, Materials Science, or Engineering (or equivalent), with a focus on physical characterization, doping formulation, extrusion, and casting technics – others are welcome

  • Some experience (industry or academic) with polyimide and polyurethanes chemistries is a valuable plus

  • Knowledge of processes such as mixing, extrusion, and formation of foams

  • Experience in scaling up material processing from lab to pilot scale, or higher
