About your role:

As a Senior Project Manager at GATE Space, you will plan, lead  and execute complex commercial, institutional and R&D projects, accelerating the development of next-generation space technologies.

You will oversee proposal activities, project execution, financial control, reporting and risk management. Working closely with our engineering, business development, and executive leadership teams, you will support the entire project lifecycle—from opportunity identification and proposal preparation through implementation, delivery and successful project closure.

This versatile role offers the opportunity to contribute directly to the growth of a fast-moving space technology company while enabling ambitious research, development, and commercialization activities.

Your primary tasks:

  • Lead multiple space or aerospace projects through the full program life cycle, from planning and requirements definition to delivery and mission completion.

  • Develop and maintain integrated project plans, schedules, budgets, milestones, and resource forecasts.

  • Coordinate cross-functional teams across engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, quality, regulatory affairs, commercial operations, and mission operations. 

  • Manage project scope, dependencies, risks, issues, and change-control processes. 

  • Monitor project performance against cost, schedule, and technical objectives, and provide clear reporting to customers and senior leadership.

  • Coordinate proposal development, including work-package planning, budgeting, scheduling, and partner contributions. 

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, suppliers, launch providers, government agencies, and other external partners. 

  • Ensure compliance with applicable quality, safety, export-control, and regulatory requirements. 

  • Support the continuous improvement of project management processes, tools, and governance.

  • Mentor project managers and contribute to the development of a high-performing program management function.

Qualifications:

Required

  • Degree in Engineering such as mechanical or aerospace engineering, natural sciences, or a related field.

  • At least six years of experience in project management within the space sector, or at least ten years of experience managing complex projects and programs in a technical environment.

  • Demonstrated success in delivering complex, multidisciplinary projects with demanding technical, financial, and schedule requirements. 

  • Strong knowledge of project planning, budgeting, risk management, resource allocation, and stakeholder communication. 

  • Ability to communicate complex information clearly to technical and non-technical audiences. 

  • Strong leadership, negotiation, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. 

  • Proficiency in project management methodologies and tools such as Microsoft Project, Primavera P6, Jira, or equivalent. 

  • Experience working with multidisciplinary teams and external partners.

  • German language skills at C1 level or above.

  • Fluency in written and spoken English.

Preferred

  • Experience with European, national, or international funding programs.

  • Experience coordinating multi-partner consortia and collaborative projects.

  • Familiarity with grant management, proposal writing, budgeting, and reporting.

  • PMP, PRINCE2, IPMA, or equivalent project management certification.

  • Experience within the aerospace, space, deep-tech, or high-tech sectors.

  • EU citizenship.

About your employment

We are looking for a full-time team member to join us as soon as possible. This position is based on-site in Vienna, Austria, with occasional travel to partner organizations, customers, conferences, and industry events across Europe and internationally.
