  • Internship
  • Cambridge, MA

Posted on June 4, 2024

Atlantic Quantum is seeking an intern for 2024 to assist in developing software for simulating our quantum processors. You will be working closely with our design & simulation team on the modelling of superconducting circuits using theory based on quantum mechanical formalism. Your tasks will include:

  • Developing and improving an internal Python-based package for Hamiltonian simulation of quantum processors.

  • Benchmarking simulation tools on various hardware platforms such as in-house CPUs and GPUs as well as cloud-based services (AWS and Microsoft Azure).

  • Comparing different numerical techniques for solving the time-dependent Schrödinger equation and for finding eigenstates of large Hamiltonian matrices.

Atlantic Quantum believes that fault-tolerant quantum hardware is the key to making progress in quantum computing. We take on this uniquely tough challenge with a team of deep experts in the field, anchored in Cambridge and Gothenburg to reflect our MIT and Chalmers roots. Our combined US and EU presence helps attract talent, investments, and partnerships to accelerate the development and commercialization of scalable quantum computing. We offer flexible work in a fast-moving start-up environment, with strong ties to world-class academic research.

Required Qualifications

  • Coursework in Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.

  • Good understanding of quantum mechanics and linear algebra.

  • Proficiency in Python or in a similar high-level programming language

Preferred Qualifications (nice to have as many as possible)

  • Excellent understanding of advanced graduate-level quantum mechanics topics such as perturbation theory.

  • Research experience in computational physics.

  • Familiarity with QuTiP or similar packages for simulating quantum systems.

  • Experience in collaborative software development.

Location: Cambridge, MA

Duration: 8-12 weeks during 2024
